This multimedia project is dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky. The installation recreates the process of filming that Tarkovsky used to create his celebrated final film, Sacrifice, through the use of unique photo and video materials as well as the director’s personal belongings and artifacts. Layla Alexander-Garrett, a close friend of and a personal assistant to Tarkovsky, will share her memories about working with him.

Author Layla Alexander-Garrett introduces her book, Andrei Tarkovsky: A Photographic Chronicle of the Making of The Sacrifice, followed by a screening of Chris Marker's One Day in the Life of Andrei Arsenevich, 1999 (55').

“The content of the exhibit is quite variegated: the Tarkovsky family handed over many of Andrei Tarkovsky’s personal affects, drawings, school notebooks and other items. There is some production content related to Mosfilm and the State Film Archive. A large number of sketches and works of the artist related to the process of creating the films Solaris, Stalker and Andrei Rublev,” explains Vyacheslav Shmyrov, the curator of the exposition and academic director the Sergei Eisenstein Library of Film Art.
